Camden County Uncontested Divorce – Fast Facts
Each year more than 3200 divorce cases are filed in Camden County. Residents of larger cities and townships such as Camden, Cherry Hill, Gloucester, Pennsauken, Winslow or Lindenwold, as well as Camden county residents who live in smaller communities must file their divorce complaints in Camden County Superior Court, Chancery Division, Family Part located in downtown Camden.
The average timeframe for an uncontested divorce to move through the system in Camden County is approximately 2-3 months if the papers are signed and forwarded to my office on a timely basis. Once the proper paperwork is completed and forwarded to the court a date is scheduled for the final divorce hearing in front of a Superior Court judge. A marriage certificate is not required to be presented in evidence for the court to schedule a hearing on the divorce.
On the day of the hearing a personal appearance is required by the plaintiff (person who filed the complaint). I will accompany the plaintiff to court to provide testimony for the court record. After the judge has heard the testimony he or she will grant the divorce, and sign the Judgment of divorce. The final paperwork is then sealed and the client leaves the courthouse with their judgment of divorce.
Camden county judges are open to telephone appearances by the plaintiff in certain limited circumstances, such as when the plaintiff is in the military and stationed outside of New Jersey, or when the plaintiff is located outside of the State. Court approval is required prior to a telephone appearance.
