Somerset County Uncontested Divorce – Fast Facts
More than 2800 divorce cases are filed each year in Somerset county. Whether you live in one of the county’s larger communities such as: Franklin Township, Bridgewater, Hillsborough or North Plainfield, or one of the smaller communities such as Somerville, Manville, Bernards Township or Warren, to start a divorce the initial and final paperwork will be filed in the Superior Court, Family Part in downtown Somerville.
Somerset county divorces are processed on a slightly longer timeline than other New Jersey counties. While a personal appearance in court is usually necessary for the judgment of divorce to be granted, there are exceptions. If court permission is sought in advance a telephone appearance may be granted to members of the military, and other persons who cannot reasonably be in court to provide live testimony. As is the case in all New Jersey counties the Judgment of Divorce is signed and delivered to you in court on the day of the final hearing. There is no secondary fee in Somerset for a gold seal.
